EV Charger Installation Cost in Markham (2026)
Most Markham homeowners pay $800 to $1,400 for a standard Level 2 charger installation, with the ESA permit and inspection included. Complex homes cost more. Here is how the price breaks down so you can sanity-check any quote.
Price by scenario
| Scenario | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Simple install, panel close to the garage | $800 – $1,400 |
| Detached garage or trenching | $3,000 – $6,000+ |
| Smart load management (EVEMS) on a tight 100A home | $2,000 – $3,000 |
What actually drives the cost
- Wire distance. Heavy-gauge copper is the biggest variable. Mounting the charger on the wall nearest your panel can save hundreds.
- Panel capacity. A panel with spare breaker space and spare capacity is the cheap case. A full panel means a subpanel, a load manager or an upgrade.
- Wall finish. Open basement ceilings are quick. Fishing cable through finished plaster in an older home takes longer.
- Garage type. Detached and rear-lane garages need an underground feeder.
Is the permit included?
It should be. In Ontario the work must be filed with the Electrical Safety Authority and inspected. Ask any installer whether the permit, inspection and materials are in the quoted price. A low headline number that adds fees later is not a saving. See our ESA permit guide.
Do not pay for an upgrade you may not need
If a quote includes a $4,500 to $7,000 panel upgrade, ask whether a load calculation or an EVEMS was considered first. Read panel upgrade vs EVEMS.
